PUT DOWN YOUR SHIELD

Put down your shield,
Set down your sword,
There are their hearts
To conquer no more.

You tried your luck,
You tried your best,
You tried to love
Like the rest.

But love did not
Return like you thought,
The cherished memories,
Dearly bought, no,
They placed them
in a heap left to rot.

You think about trying
Love again at times,
When the poetry fades
And you forget dismal rhymes…

But then you remember
All the hurt they made
And your heart they goodbye, bade
Making it easy for hope to fade.

Now on this journey alone
Where love is emaciated to the bone
You tried to give many your all
It seems now you were destined to fall
So you could rise and become
What you could not, in the land you were from.

A new land you will find,
The place you were meant to be,
Where in common and in kind,
The way forward, able now to see.

Love does not need end
As long as you still
Have curiosity around every bend
A child like hunger to fill.

And when you get to that land you are going,
With each step you take continually growing,
You will find that love never left,
Of its touch, never wholly bereft,
It never stopped being close to you
Though His character seems known to few.

And though some say
He is offensive and wrong,
I’ve never known such love
In all of humanity’s song,
Or with Him my faults had to pay
The price the world askes all along

And so love be may hoped for yet
Allowing for travailing without a fret
My focus upon the horizon set
Possibility open of all my goals met

The sword and the shield set down indeed
But my heart of its heavy burden freed
by experiencing all that there is in nature
familiar with every genus and nomenclature
The world is ready for exploring there
All around capturing my awe struck stare

In a world filled with hype and noise,
With those of elegantly maneuvered poise
I seek solitude—the mountains and the streams
There, I will find His comfort and peaceful dreams

Love is all around me, it never did leave
It never did let go like I was so willing to believe
I see Him now in every bush and stream and tree,
Every mountain and valley I traverse is Him setting me free,
From the world’s way of showing me affection,
His arms wrap around me their strong protection.
